World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed 88 human cases
(with 51 deaths) of avian influenza A (H5N1) or bird flu from
December 2003 to April 14, 2005. The cases are officially
reported by local authorities. The overall fatality rate is
as high as 58 per cent.
